The “H2iseO Hydrogen Valley” project is an initiative by FNM, FERROVIENORD, and Trenord, aimed at fostering sustainable mobility and decarbonizing public transport in Val Camonica, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a gateway to the Milan-Cortina 2026 Winter Olympic Games. Situated along the non-electrified Brescia-Iseo-Edolo railway line, this project regards different development targets. These include the establishment of economic and geographic districts based on hydrogen hydrogen mobility applications, hydrogen production, and transportation/storage to facilitate the energy transition of the area.
The project foresees the introduction of 14 hydrogen trains substituting diesel-fuelled trains, and of 40 hydrogen buses. Hydrogen will be produced in three different locations: Iseo, through steam methane reforming of biomethane with carbon dioxide capture (2.8 MW); in Edolo and in Brescia through electrolysis (5 MW).
