The H2Rhein-Neckar project aims to strengthen climate-friendly public transport by using hydrogen as an energy source. To this end, the urban diesel buses previously used in Mannheim and Heidelberg municipalities will be replaced by emission-free fuel cell range extender articulated buses. To switch to the new buses, Rhein-Neckar-Verkehr GmbH is building a new bus depot for alternative drives in order to sustainably integrate climate-friendly public transport. For the new buses from the H2Rhein-Neckar project, 13 charging points will be set up at the Mannheim depot on Möhlstrasse and 27 charging points at the depot on Wieblinger Weg in Heidelberg. In addition, a public hydrogen filling station will be set up at each depot , which will be supplied with hydrogen. At these two filling stations, buses with 350 bar and cars with 700 bar can be refueled.
H2Rhein-Neckar is a strategically important project that involves many regional partners in order to help hydrogen and fuel cell technology reach market maturity in the long term.
