HyMantoValley involves 16 partners from four European nations (Italy, Austria, Belgium, and the Netherlands) and includes participation from both public and private entities specializing in energy production and storage, logistics companies, universities, and research centers significant at both Italian and international levels. HyMantoValley is part of a broader initiative aimed at establishing one of the first hydrogen valleys in Europe, located in the province of Mantua, with a total expected investment of approximately €75 million.
The project’s purpose is to develop aspects of the Hydrogen Valley in Mantua (Northern Italy), optimizing the production and storage of renewable electrical energy, converting it into green hydrogen, and enhancing its distribution and storage. The Valdaro logistics hub will play a crucial role in utilizing green hydrogen for freight transport, powering trains, river vessels, and heavy road vehicles. Additionally, the project aims to study dedicated business models, identify potential new users, explore the replicability of the model in other European contexts, and establish a hydrogen research hub.
The project focuses on three main pillars: 1) Development of the green hydrogen production and distribution chain, starting from the production of renewable electrical energy. 2) Establishment of a network for the use and shipment of green hydrogen, involving ships, trains, heavy road vehicles, and companies in the hard-to-abate sector. 3) Promotion of scientific and academic research through the establishment of a technological hub focused on the optimization and innovation of the hydrogen value chain and managed by relevant universities.
