MPREIS Hydrogen

“Green Hydrogen for MPREIS, Tyrol and Europe” (MPREIS Hydrogen) started in 2016 and initiated in the frame of the European project “Demo4Grid” with the aim to implement a 3 MW pressurized alkaline electrolyzer (PAE) at the production facility of MPREIS (food retailer) in Völs (Tyrol, Austria) to provide grid balancing services. For the first time, in the region of Tyrol high quantities of green hydrogen for industrial use in the production of aliments as well as for heavy duty mobility applications will be supplied.

“MPREIS Hydrogen” contains all elements of a regional green hydrogen economy with a green hydrogen logistic including a PAE and hydrogen storage as part of the Demo4Grid European project (demonstration of power grid balancing services under real operating and market conditions), a hydrogen refuelling station (HRS) for heavy-duty applications as part of the funding agreement for the infrastructure subsidy granted by KPC (Kommunalkredit Public Consulting GmbH), as well as a hydrogen logistics system based on multi element gas containers (MEGCs) and heavy-duty FCE Trucks as part of WIVA P&G HyWest funding.

The green hydrogen produced is also used in the company’s own bakery, which has an innovative dual-fuel burner.
