Power2X Kufstein

TIWAG-Tiroler Wasserkraft Wasserstoffzentrum “Power2X Kufstein” envisages the construction of a sector coupling system with a hydrogen center southwest of Kufstein near the TIWAG Langkampfen run-of-river power plant, in Tyrol. Sector coupling (P2X) connects the electricity, heat and gas networks as well as the mobility sector and thus creates an important prerequisite for a sustainable, future-proof and economically oriented energy system.

In order to meet the need for sustainable mobility for cars, trucks and buses, drop-off points for refueling fuel cell electric vehicles as well as a powerful charging infrastructure for battery electric vehicles will be built on site. In order to increase the proportion of sustainable gas in the TIGAS natural gas network, hydrogen is planned to be fed into the natural gas grid. In order to increase the energy efficiency of the sector coupling system, the waste heat from the electrolysis systems is raised to the temperature level of the district heating network using heat pumps and fed in there. In addition, the possibility is created to use the hydrogen and the additional oxygen produced during electrolysis in the nearby sewage treatment plant.
